Depression and other mental health issues can be something some people don't feel comfortable telling others about. They are fearful that they will be labeled an attention seeker, or that they will be judged. Anything can trigger a mental health issue just like a virus could trigger an illness. If you've lived life long enough you have experienced this subconsciously knowing it or not. If you've experienced a death in the family where it's significantly impacted you it could trigger a short-term mental struggle, being bullied or working to reach a goal your entire life and failing at it, living in a constant state of fear and stress; especially in your early childhood. Can trigger anxiety and it can even make you a tougher person once you have realized you're struggling with it. For example, it can be tough being a young child and having to eat raw sugar out of the cabinets because your family had to ration food, going to the grocery store as a kid never having enough money and having to watch your parents clip coupons and watching them get rejected. Being told you're never good enough and homelessness can be rough on our youth. I the author have had to deal with this and as we know pressure either makes diamonds or burst pipes, it made a diamond out of me. Pressure has made diamonds out of millions of people but unfortunately not everyone is as lucky. Some have defined anxiety as a state of fear that cannot be located or controlled. Our youth that are living in abusive households cannot control their life because their parents control it. This can cause unhealthy anxiety at a young age. It is important to know what anxiety and depression is. We need to know what are the symptoms and how we can help prevent it. MAIN IDEA - The definition of depression:Feelings of severe despondency and dejection. (Oxford dictionary) Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living. (MayoClinic.org) How to help yourself or others with depression - 1. Help a loved one with chores or their duties. Respectfully encourage self-care. For example you could say “I'll wash the dishes while you take a hot shower.” 2. Have a genuine conversation with them and try to understand their problem, do not listen to formulate a response listen understand. Do not seek to give advice, seek to listen to them. 3 Burning herbs such as st. John's Wort, ginseng, lavender, chamomile Sage and saffron can help, they are all natural antidepressants. 4 Never tell them to “cheer up” or that it is “their fault” or to “just stop acting sad.” 5.
